New for Fall 2020

Due to COVID-19, ensemble programs at DCMS will temporarily be on hold until conditions allow them to resume safely. For this fall, the jazz program is offering in-person private lessons in Jazz Studies with Brad Muirhead at the Music School.
These will take place in the Kinsroom (the largest room in the facility: 25’ x 25’ with in/out ventilation), following rigorous social-distancing protocols.
Lessons are open to all instruments, including all winds, brass, drums, bass, guitar, piano, and voice!
Typical topics that may be covered in these sessions will include playing with a rhythm section (using high-quality “play-along” tracks through a PA system), improvisation and solo building, motivic development, understanding chord progressions (jazz theory), jazz composition and jazz appreciation (listening to jazz recordings will be part of the lessons).
Students will learn standard material from all eras of the jazz repertoire, from traditional through modern.
Lessons will be tailored to the skill and theoretical level & needs of each individual student.

Starting – Tuesday, October 6th, 2020
