Our music school had a booth at yesterday’s Ladner Village Market. Thanks to our board and volunteers for coming out and helping with the tent and helping spread the word of all the good things our little school does for the community. A few of our faculty and students from our upcoming South Delta Jazz Workshop were in attendance providing some entertainment and festivity to the scene.

This year’s South Delta Jazz Workshop is approaching fast. We have lots of students enrolled but are short on drummers.  If anyone knows some drummers that might be interested, please spread the word. There may be scholarship funds available to help us fill the drum chairs. Thanks and see you soon!

Our Summer Thrive City Boot Camp is almost full!

This years’ participants hail from all over the lower mainland with ages ranging from 12-71 years old!  We have space for 25 students and there are 6 spots remaining, which will be filled on a first come, first served basis:

Violin: 3 spots available
Viola: 2 spots available
Cello: 1 spot available

We have spoken with a few teachers who missed the application deadline, but still want their students to participate. The camp dates are July 18-31, 2012 (no camp on Sundays). I would strongly urge you to encourage your students to submit applications and recordings ASAP.

One really great development this year: World renowned violinist, Herbert Greenberg (head of the String Department of the Peabody Conservatory of Music), will be taking a short leave from the Aspen Music Festival to work with our students for 4 days – presenting masterclasses, working with individual classes, and performing for and with our participants. For more details on Herbert Greenberg, visit: http://www.thrivecitymusic.com/tcsbc_guest.html

This July we will be hosting our second Thrive City String Boot Camp at the music school. The program is directed by one of John Littlejohn who is one of our faculty members at the school. This year along with John and his Infinitus String trio (Alex and Anthony Chung) we will be also adding Richmond violin teacher and Delta Youth Orchestra string coach Jonathan Der to our summer faculty.

Come and celebrate another great year of jazz with the Delta Community Music School’s jazz combos under the direction of Brad Muirhead.
