Come join us for a fun mixtape of great music across several genres. Piazolla’s famous L’Histoire du Tango, Mexican Composer  Marquez’s Zarabandeo,  John Littlejohn and the Infinitus Sting Trio,  The South Delta Jazz Festival Faculty Band, Tracy Neff and Students and faculty with Music from “Frozen”, and more!

 All Proceeds go towards scholarships and bursaries for music students.

Musicians

Barrie Barrington earned his B.Mus at Brandon Unuversity and both his M. Mus
and DMA at the University of British Columbia. While at UBC, he studied with the
well-known pianist, Robert Silverman. Barrie has taught at Douglas College since 1984
as an instructor in private and class piano. Aside from his teaching duties, Barrie performs
both solo and chamber music recitals and has performed concertos with several orchestras
in the lower mainland area of BC. He is an active adjudicator and clinician
throughout Western Canada.

Colleen Clarke earned her B. Mus. in Voice Performance from Brandon University.
She sang with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, touring in both Canada and the United
States. She currently teaches voice and performs as a soloist throughout the Lower
Mainland.

Frances Armstrong has studied piano for the past 9 years. Currently, her music
studies are divided between Alan Crane, at the VSO School of Music, and Bruce Vogt,
at the UVic School of Music. She proved her abilities on stage and became a consistent
scholarship winner in local festivals. Frances works as an accompanist for the Arbutus
Music Academy, at the VSO School of Music for voice classes, and for the VSO School
of Music Choir.

Patricia Armstrong is an active teacher and performer of violin and viola. She studied
at UBC, The Victoria Conservatory of Music, and U. of Toronto. She has played
with Tafelmusik, several symphonies and is currently principal 2nd violinist with the
Vancouver Opera Orchestra.

Sandy Hackleman has played flute and piccolo as a freelance musician for the Calgary
Philharmonic, Vancouver Symphony and Opera Orchestras, and principal flute in
the Pittsfield Philharmonic in Massachusetts. She has had a long career as both a flute
instructor and music teacher in schools, and now is enjoying singing in the Lyric Chorus,and volunteering in an ensemble which performs in retirement residences.

Student Recital – Feb. 16 2014
Our First Student Recital of 2014 will be on Sunday February 16th at 2pm at the school.  Admission is Free. Student sign up sheets will be up at the school until Feb. 5th.

Faculty Concert – Friday March 7th, 7:30 pm
DCMS presents our very own performing faculty in concert. John Littlejohn with the Infinitus Trio, Stephen Robb – clarinet/piano, Cheryl Carruthers – piano, Louise Southwood – classical guitar,  Music from Broadway, classical, and jazz. details TBA.  Funds raised will go towards student scholarships and our summer music programs.

African Drum Classes
We have good enrolment for this terms class with about 10 students
Open Drop in Session – Drum Circle – February 8th – 7:30 pm at the school

South Delta Jazz Festival 2014 edition
Our Summer Jazz Workshop is coming up Tuesday July 8th – Saturday July 12 2014.  Expect another great week of jazz workshop and student and faculty concerts.  Details TBA

Happy New Year to all our Music school students and their families!  I hope you all had a wonderful winter break! Our school opens again on Monday January 6th!  The office will be open and all regularly scheduled Monday lessons will be taking place, unless you have made other arrangements with your teacher.
